UCLA Participates in Reading to Kids Service Project

UCLA GK participated in the Reading to Kids service project at Mognolia Elementary School in Los Angeles on Saturday, 14 November. The event kicked off early by dividing the elementary students into “reading groups” determined by academic grade. Each group was assigned to volunteers who read to the groups during a 90-minute session. The session also included an arts and crafts project related directly to the group’s assigned reading. Each participant was awarded a book at the conclusion of the event in an effort to encourage the students to read on their own. Reading to Kids is a non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring underprivileged children with an appreciation for reading. The project serves approximately 1,200 children and 465 volunteers at reading clubs on the second Saturday of each month at eight LA elementary schools.
