We’re proud to have more than two million amazing members of Golden Key around the world, and we love hearing and sharing the stories of why each person joined and what they’ve gained from their time with us. Here we share the stories of three inspiring members…

Breanne Cadham UBC Okanagan

“I was lucky enough to be part of the founding University of British Columbia Okanagan Chapter of Golden Key. I knew nothing about the society before receiving my letter, but upon researching GK via their website and news articles I was excited about the opportunities for scholarship and volunteering that were available.

The idea of balancing leadership, academics, and volunteering spoke to me as many other groups focus on only one of these areas. I would recommend that anyone who is interested in being involved in any or all of GK’s three pillars consider joining. There are a tonne of benefits and opportunities to get involved locally, nationally, and globally if you are willing to find them!”

Odion Kalaci University of Windsor

“I really enjoyed my Golden Key experience! Like any club, the more you put into it, the more you benefit. I was attracted to Golden Key because I wanted to network with like-minded individuals, improve my leadership skills, and because of its commitment to service.

My efforts as an executive member helped me secure a spot in the Council of Student Members. I enjoyed the international scope of Golden Key, and I have made lifelong friends as a result.
The scholarships (Undergraduate Achievement Awards and Canadian Student Leader Award) have also been instrumental in advancing my professional goals.

Because of GK, we were able to start the Golden Future organization, now in its 11th year! We have continued to contribute to the impoverished townships in Khayelitsha, South Africa. We also had multiple GK chapters contribute to the efforts. It highlights the global aspect that GK has and we made full use of its infrastructure for the benefit of the community.”

Roxana Akhmetova The University of Winnipeg

“I joined Golden Key because I wanted to meet like-minded students. I was also intrigued by the large number of scholarships that are available to Golden Key members. I was the recipient of the chapter scholarship and it greatly helped me to pay off tuition debt.

I had a chance to be a part of the Golden Key executive committee in three positions. The best part of being in the Golden Key executive team was learning new skills and having fun with other GK members. I really enjoyed my time with Golden Key as I had a chance to experience new things, gain new skills, and make many friends.”
