"The Professor Is In" with Prof. Shelley Mydra Go to Chapter
The GSEP Psychology Department and Golden Key International Honor Society is continuing their series titled - The Professor Is In with Dr. Shelley Mydra on Wednesday, November 5th, 2025 at 3:00pm
Consider attending either in-person (Room 333, West LA) or virtually through using the QR code below to register.
Serving as a mental health professional, while highly rewarding, can place clinicians at risk for significant fatigue and burnout. This session of The Professor Is In will focus on the therapist and highlight the critical importance of self-care to help safeguard against occupational exhaustion.
Students will learn practical and realistic lifestyle interventions, including strategies for managing stress both in the office and at home. Also explored will be practices for restorative sleep, balanced nutrition and hydration, healthy movement, meaningful social connection, and mindfulness. These approaches can be seamlessly integrated into the therapist’s daily life to enhance energy, focus, and overall mental health and wellness.
Finally, the presentation will demonstrate how these same lifestyle approaches can be integrated into clinical practice, enriching both therapist self-care and client treatment planning while remaining within the therapist’s scope of practice.
Shelley Mydra, DMFT, LMFT, is an Adjunct Professor of Psychology at Pepperdine University Graduate School of Education and Psychology (GSEP).
