As a member of GK, I have gotten a chance to work as a volunteer with a talented group of students and Mr. Kamran Riaz at UH main campus. We worked at the Houston Public Library Annual Book Sale at George Brown Convention Center, Hobby Center, Houston Lighthouse, Houston Food Bank, and Houston Heartland in Houston, Texas in spring 2010. I would like to detail some of my volunteer experiences. Houston Public Library's Annual Book Sale was a new experience for my crew and me in 2010. I helped with several items at that time. It gave me a chance to learn about an Annual Book Sale at that time. When I arrived at the Hobby center, they told me that I would be working for "The Little House on the Prairie" at the center. I have deep affiliation with this series as I grew up with it. It was fun to work at the Hobby Center for that day. It gave me a chance to learn about visual and performing arts and a good customer service at the center. Houston Lighthouse works for physically disabled people. I worked with my crew for blind and deaf people. We used clay to make art works with them. It was pretty challenging for me to work at the Lighthouse for that day. It was also pretty precious for me to work with those people who were unable to see and feel me at the lighthouse. I worked with two gentlemen. They were very well trained and creative people. It was easy to communicate with them at the time. It was hard to explain with words because they couldn't see my artwork and hands at the time. Houston Food Bank's work was also pretty challenging for me. We helped them by doing some random things at their place and gave me a chance to learn about Houston Food Bank in a detailed way. Houston Heartland works for senior citizens. We shared our feelings by using greetings cards and by visiting people at the Heartland at that time. Several greeting cards were donated by several people including children, young people, and adults. Some of those cards had decorative materials and texts on them. Those senior people loved those cards and they enjoyed our visits at that time.
