As I began my sophomore year, I was looking for more structured ways to participate in a variety of community service opportunities with my peers. Golden Key has provided a number of opportunities to get involved with the UMBC campus as well as surrounding communities throughout the year. As community director, I’ve represented Golden Key in community service events on campus such as our second annual Relay for Life event. This was a great way to encourage our members to be involved with events on campus as well as support a worthy cause.
In addition to community service, Golden Key has introduced me to a group of motivated, talented students in all disciplines. By receiving weekly e-mails from Golden Key, I’ve been exposed to opportunities such as attending different academic conferences as well as applying for certain scholarships and study abroad programs. I look forward to taking part in networking and member development opportunities available to members, which will be a useful tool as I apply to graduate schools in the upcoming semesters.
Golden Key has influenced my involvement on campus, allowed me to give back to my community, and provided scholastic opportunities I may not have found in my undergraduate career. I cannot wait to continue expanding my position in the chapter as well as continue experiencing all that Golden Key has to offer.
