Our Associate Director was invited as the Keynote Speaker at a nearby chapter’s Induction Ceremony, and as President of our chapter, I was asked if I would like to be involved in a discussion and exchange of ideas to take place after their ceremony. I agreed, and so on that winter’s day, we set off on what should have been only a two hour drive.
When we left, it had already begun to snow, and as we got out of town and onto the highway, it only got worse. Going about 30-40 mph on the interstate, I remember watching as a SUV on the opposite road slowly drove itself right into the ditch! Nonetheless, we persisted, and after about 4 hours, we finally arrived at our destination, but by then the ceremony was over, and all the students and officers had gone. Fortunately, we were still able to meet with the chapter advisor for a productive discussion, so it was not all for nothing.
It would have been easy to simply cancel our meeting due to weather and have a discussion over the phone, but our Associate Director’s determination to drive through the heavy snowfall to meet face-to-face and help guide a local chapter is an example of how strongly committed Golden Key is to seeing their members succeed, and is something that makes Golden Key unique.
