When I was in my sophomore year of college at Iowa State University it seemed like I was getting an invitation to some sort of honor society on weekly basis. Although I looked through each one, none seemed to fit my personality or were able to meet my needs. When I received my invitation from Golden Key that all changed though. As I was perusing the website I instantly felt as though this was the honor society for me. The opportunities it offered me and the international presence both interested my equally.
My involvement in the organization was very minimal the first year, something I am sad to admit. At that point, I didn’t fully understand all that Golden Key did and what it meant. At the end of my sophomore year I was in search of a leadership opportunity and Golden Key was holding elections. I went to the elections hoping to snag a small position as newsletter editor, but ended up being selected as the secretary and I‘ve held that position ever since.
Getting involved with Golden Key’s executive board on my campus was one of the best things I could have done. I am now part of a group that really makes a difference in the lives of our members and our community. I help plan community service activities and member meetings and events. We have participated in Habitat for Humanity, Science Bowl, Relay for Life, and many other activities that are making our community a better place. This group is something I can say that I am proud to be a part of.
