BUSINESS ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS

Postmark Deadline: 1 March 2007  Deadline Passed

Description: This award recognizes members who excel in the study of business.

Scholarships Available: First place winner will receive US$1,000, second place winner will receive US$750 and third place winner will receive US$500.

Eligibility: Undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate members who are currently enrolled in classes in a degree-granting program may apply.

Criteria: Academic achievement, quality of paper submitted.

Application requirements:

1. Read application procedures and follow directions to Register your intent to apply (Must have your Golden Key membership number).

2. Print out the Cover Page from the On-Line Registration and use as cover page for entire application.

3. Attach the following required documentation:

A business related paper/report you have prepared. The submission must not exceed 10 pages of text.

A letter of recommendation from a professor in the discipline.

An official academic transcript.

COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD

Description: The Golden Key Member Service Award recognizes one member for outstanding service to the community.

Scholarships Available: One award totaling US$500: US$250 to the recipient and US$250 to the charity of the recipient’s choice.

Eligibility: Undergraduate and graduate members who were enrolled as students during the previous academic year. More than one member from each chapter may apply for the award, and projects submitted may be either individual or chapter efforts.

Criteria: Impact of service provided as determined by the selection committee.

Application requirements:

1. Read application procedures and follow directions to Register your intent to apply (Must have your Golden Key membership number).

2. Print out the Cover Page from the On-Line Registration and use as cover page for entire application.

3. Attach the following required documentation:

A statement of no more than 500 words describing the service project and your philosophy of community service.

A letter of recommendation from your Golden Key chapter advisor.

A letter of recommendation from a representative of the beneficiary of the service.

A list of extracurricular activities detailing involvement in other campus and community service, including any involvement in Golden Key. Also list any work and family commitments.

Description: This award recognizes members who excel in the study of engineering or technology.

Scholarships Available: One winner will receive US$1,000, a second place winner will receive US$750, and a third place winner will receive US$500.

Eligibility: Those eligible are undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate members who are currently enrolled in classes at a degree-granting program.

Criteria: Academic achievement, quality of paper submitted.

LITERARY ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS

Description: This award recognizes the literary talents of Golden Key members in four categories - fiction, non-fiction, poetry and news writing.

Scholarships Available: One winner in each category will receive US$1,000 and may be published in CONCEPTS, Golden Key's annual magazine.

Eligibility: Those eligible are undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate members who are currently enrolled in classes at a degree-granting program.

Criteria: Quality of writing submitted, as determined by the selection committee

Application requirements:

1. Read application procedures and follow directions to Register your intent to apply (Must have your Golden Key membership number).

2. Print out the Cover Page from the On-Line Registration and use as cover page for entire application.

3. Attach the following required documentation:

An original composition. Previously published works will not be accepted.  We encourage you to submit compositions for each of the 4 categories listed above, however, we will only accept ONE composition per category per member.

4. The entry must not exceed 1,500 words.

STUDENT LEADER AWARD (REGIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL)
These awards are funded through the Society's Invest in Excellence Fund. This fund consists of contributions from alumni members and friends of the Society. To contribute to this fund, please contact

Description: The Regional Student Leader Awards recognize one Golden Key member in each region (10 US regions, Asia-Pacific Region, South Africa Region and Canada Region) for outstanding commitment to the Society and display of effective campus and community leadership while maintaining superior academic performance. Each recipient of a Regional Student Leader Award will receive a $500 award and will be considered candidates for the prestigious International Student Leader Award.

The International Student Leader Award recognizes one exceptional Golden Key member for outstanding commitment to the Society and display of effective campus and community leadership while maintaining superior academic performance. The recipient of the International Student Leader Award will receive an award of US$1,000.

Eligibility: Applicants must be active members in good standing with Golden Key. An active member is one who is currently or has previously been involved in Golden Key chapter activities. Applicants must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at an accredited college or university (which does not need to have a Golden Key chapter).

Applicants will first be considered for the Regional Student Leader Awards. Winners for the Regional Student Leader Awards will then be considered as candidates for the International Student Leader Award.

Criteria: Academic achievement, impact of Golden Key leadership, as determined by the selection committee, and involvement in extracurricular activities.

Application requirements:

Asia-Pacific and South Africa regions each have unique procedures and application processes for the Regional Student Leader Awards. The regional student leader awards application process for these regions/countries follow a timeline that is in conjunction with their regional conferences. Asia-Pacific and South Africa members who wish to apply for their respective region's/country's Regional Student Leader Award can contact the following for more information:

US: Only U.S. Golden Key members who wish to apply for this award are to follow the application process outlined below.

1. Please carefully follow these application procedures and submit all requested documentation postmarked by 20 January 2007.

2. The required FORMAT of the submission is as follows:
a. It is preferred that you submit your application electronically to awards@goldenkey.org. When submitting electronically, please submit all requested documents as attachments in one e-mail instead of attaching to several e-mails.

b. You may also submit this nomination/application on paper:
i) Typewritten/word processed pages must be made only on white color letter-sized paper.
ii) Typewritten/word processed pages must have text only on only one side of each page.
iii) The submission must be bound with a paperclip or binder clip. Do not staple or puncture holes in the paper submission. Do not submit in a plastic or paper presentation folder.

3. The APPLICATION shall consist of the following (in the following order):

a. A completed application form (click for the form).
b. A personal statement of no more than 1,000 words explaining why the applicant feels that he or she should receive a Student Leader Award.
c. A detailed list of personal Golden Key involvement and accomplishments (include all chapters where applicant may have been involved; include all regional, national and international involvement).
d. A listing of extracurricular involvement in other organizations, honors and awards received, community service activities, work/job commitments and family commitments.
e. A letter of recommendation from the Golden Key chapter advisor (current or past advisor is OK as long as the advisor is familiar with the applicant's Golden Key involvement and leadership impact).
f. A copy of the most recent academic transcripts/records that indicate academic performance during the period of Golden Key involvement and other leadership experience reported. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable.

Please retain a copy of the application submitted for your records.

Selection & Announcement

The U.S. Regional Student Leader Awards
A committee of regional leaders and staff will select the Regional Student Leader winners. The winners of the U.S. regional awards will be announced at the 2007 Leadership Training Conferences.

The International Student Leader Award
All winners of the Regional Student of the Year Awards will be forwarded as candidates for the International Student Leader Award. A committee of regional and international leaders will select the winner. Every effort will be made to have diverse geographical representation on the committee. The winner of the international award will be announced at the next Golden Key International Conference.

STUDY ABROAD SCHOLARSHIPS

Description: This scholarship assists members who participate in a study abroad program.

Scholarships Available: Ten US$1,000 awards will be presented each year (three for the October 20 deadline, seven for the April 15 deadline).

Eligibility: Those eligible are undergraduate members who are currently enrolled in a study abroad program or will be enrolled the academic year immediately following the granting of the award. The study abroad program cannot have been completed prior to the application deadline date. Award recipients will be expected to contribute an article about their study abroad experience to CONCEPTS, Golden Key’s annual magazine.

Criteria: Academic achievement and relevance of study abroad program to major field of study, a determined by the selection committee.

Application requirements:

1. Read application procedures and follow directions to Register your intent to apply (Must have your Golden Key membership number).

2. Print out the Cover Page from the On-Line Registration and use as cover page for entire application.

3. Attach the following required documentation:

A description of the planned academic program at the host university. Submit no more than five pages.

A one-page statement of the relevance of this program to your degree signed by a professor or academic advisor.

An official academic transcript.

UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH GRANTS

Postmark Deadline: 16 April 2007 & 16 October 2006 Deadline Passed

Description: These grants allow members to conduct thesis research and/or present their research at professional conferences or student research symposia.

Scholarships Available: Ten US$500 awards will be presented each year (three for the 20 October deadline, seven for the 15 April deadline).

Eligibility: Undergraduate student members are eligible to apply.

Criteria: Academic achievement and quality of research or presentation as determined by the selection committee.

Application requirements:

1. Read application procedures and follow directions to Register your intent to apply (Must have your Golden Key membership number).

2. Print out the Cover Page from the On-Line Registration and use as cover page for entire application.

3. Attach the following required documentation:

A description of the proposed research presentation and documented evidence of invitation to present at a specified professional association conference or research symposia. In the case of requesting a grant for honors thesis research, submit documentation supported by the thesis advisor that explains the how this grant money will be used.

A budget that summarizes the overall cost of attending the conference or how the grant money will be used to support research for an honors thesis.

VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS

Description: This award recognizes the visual art talents of Golden Key members in nine categories – painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, computer-generated art/graphic design/illustration, mixed media, instrumental performance, vocal performance, and dance.

Scholarships Available: One winner in each category will receive US$500. If there are insufficient submissions in any one category, Golden Key reserves the right to not make an award in that category.

Eligibility: Those eligible are undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate members who are currently enrolled in classes at a degree-granting program.

Criteria: Quality of work submitted, as determined by the selection committee.

Application requirements:

1. Read application procedures and follow directions to Register your intent to apply (Must have your Golden Key membership number).

2. Print out the Cover Page from the On-Line Registration and use as cover page for entire application.

3. Attach the following required documentation:

For visual arts: Include slides, photographs or a CD of photographs (preferred). Do NOT submit the artwork itself as it will not be considered or returned. Only one entry per member per category will be accepted.

For performing arts: The entry must be submitted on VHS videotape or DVD. (Compact discs and audiocassettes are accepted for original musical composition ONLY.) Performances may not exceed 10 minutes in length. All submissions become the property of Golden Key. Only one entry per member per category will be accepted.
