Teach For America

Teach For America is the national corps of outstanding recent college graduates of all backgrounds and academic majors who commit two years to teach in urban and rural public schools and who become lifelong leaders in the effort to expand opportunity for children.

Each year, Teach For America selects over 2,000 individuals who demonstrate a solid record of achievement. These corps members undergo extensive training during summer institutes, are placed as full-time, paid teachers in urban and rural public schools, and join an ongoing support network that helps them succeed during their two years as teachers and beyond.

Currently, 3,500 corps members are teaching in 22 urban and rural regions across the country and 10,000 alumni are working from inside every sector including medicine, law, public policy, business, and education to bring about the fundamental changes necessary to reach our vision of educational opportunity for all.

As a Teach For America corps member, you will:

  • Assume a tremendous leadership role and overcome immense challenges to make an immediate impact on the lives of low-income children
  • Gain the insight, credibility, and network to effect meaningful long-term change
  • Acquire concrete skills that will position you for success regardless of the profession you ultimately pursue
