We are pleased to offer our early bird registrants a special $329 (USD) registration rate until 15 May 2008. REGISTER TODAY to take advantage of this special rate! Hotel reservations are separate from conference registration this year. Special rates for Golden Key delegates at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside start at just $99(USD). Visit our website for details on booking your room.

Gearing Up for New Orleans
With four months to go, chapter planning activities for the 2008 International Conference at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) are kicking into high gear! After sharing general details about the trip at chapter meetings and via email, the chapter held a formal Information Session for students during the first week of March. With a clear idea of costs and a fundraising strategy in place, the UMBC chapter is moving toward confirming the number of participants and total cost. The Information Session served to outline the specific costs (hotel, flight, meals) and to share information about service placement options. The Hilton has agreed to extend the Golden Key conference room rate back to the Monday they arrive, allowing UMBC an affordable housing option during the week of service prior to the conference. They have narrowed their choices to volunteer for Common Ground or Habitat for Humanity, and will work in the coming weeks to make a decision and register to volunteer.

YouTube Video Contest
Golden Key is sponsoring a contest for chapters to create a video about the 2008 International Conference! Eligible videos are posted on YouTube and judged by the general public and a Golden Key panel. The winning video submission will be played at the 2008 International Conference Opening Session and the chapter will earn special recognition and bonus spirit points for its region in the Annual Spirit Competition! Please visit our website and click on "View YouTube Video Contest Rules".

Conference Workshop Proposals
We are now accepting workshop submissions for this year's conference. Please consider lending your expertise and presentation skills. Presenting is a great way to add a dimension to your resume, to share a unique chapter activity or communicate ideas that are of personal interest to you. The deadline to submit proposals is
15 May 2008. Please visit our website for more information.

2008 Multimedia Literacy Showcase
Since Golden Key's shift to literacy, Golden Key chapters have created outstanding programs to promote literacy both on campus and in their community. As we continue to "think BIG" at Golden Key, we are replacing the tri-fold displays of the past with multimedia presentations. So put away the scissors and tape, grab a camera, gather your photos and get creative! Take this opportunity to share your literacy efforts with Golden Key members around the globe by participating in this year's Multimedia Literacy Showcase of Service. Please visit the Golden Key website for details and submit your literacy presentation by 15 May 2008.

Chapter Highlights

The University
of Alabama at Birmingham
During their Induction Ceremony on 2 March 2008, Amber Bishop, Golden Key Chapter President, was presented with an award from the Verizon Wireless Hopeline Program, which donates cell phones with free service to victims of domestic violence so that they are never without a lifeline. Not only did the chapter collect multiple phones and accessories, but they were also able to raise awareness of domestic violence to their campus in Birmingham, Alabama. Boxes were placed throughout campus for individuals to donate their unused cell phone and accessories for the cause initiated by the Golden Key chapter.

Alumni Highlights

Damon Sununtnasuk
graduated with high honors from the University of Florida (UF) in 2006 with a Bachelors in Business Administration, specializing in Marketing and Entrepreneurship. He was inducted into Golden Key in 2005 where he was an active member for the remainder of his time at UF. After starting his own software development venture in Florida, with the help of Angel Funds, he became enthralled with technology and its ability to change the way people work and live. Damon accepted an internship during the summer of 2005 with Microsoft on the Office Marketing team and worked on the launch of Microsoft Small Business Accounting 2006. Damon retuned to UF to finish out his degree and wrote his thesis on niche marketing: reaching the college demographic though non-traditional methods. Upon graduation, Damon returned to Microsoft to become an Office product manager and lead the technical audience readiness campaign for the largest product launch in the company's history.
