Golden Key has been a cornerstone within the city of Atlanta with a strong connection to local businesses and organizations, including membership in the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce.
Founded at Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia on November 29, 1977, the formerly named Golden Key National Honor Society grew out of a need for greater recognition of academic excellence. Over 300 college students were inducted into the first Golden Key chapter and since it's founding, Golden Key has emerged as one of the most dynamic, forward-thinking organizations in higher education. In an effort to reflect the Society's diversity and international presence, Golden Key National Honor Society officially changed its name to Golden Key International Honour Society in 2001.
Golden Key International Honour Society is an academic honor society which recognizes and encourages scholastic achievement and excellence among college and university students from all academic disciplines. The Society awards its members over $400,000 (USD) annually through numerous scholarship and award programs. Members are connected to exclusive career opportunities and assistance through Golden Key's partnerships with major corporations and graduate programs. The Society provides campus and community service opportunities enabling personal growth and leadership development as well as collaborating with university faculty and administrators to develop and maintain high standards of education.
30 years since the founding, Golden Key International Honour Society has become the world's premier college and university honor society. Committed to an ethos of recognizing academic achievement and encouraging altruistic service, the Society has expanded to over 1.7 million members at over 350 colleges and universities in seven countries worldwide including Australia, Canada, Malaysia, New Zealand, South Africa, the United Arab Emirates and the United States. Membership into the Society is by invitation only, to students in all fields of study. The Society is a member of ACHS, the Association of College Honor Societies.
