This section highlights the recent successes of our student and alumni members.


Dr. Nancy King
will be retiring from Kennesaw State University (Kennesaw, Georgia) where she serves as the Vice President for Student Success and Enrollment Services and a Professor of English until May of 2008.  Dr. King was the chartering advisor of Golden Key International Honour Society on May 21, 1987.  During her time with the Society, she has won many awards including Outstanding Advisor of the Year and assisted the chapter in maintaining GOLD chapter status for many years with help from the other advisor, Dr. Robert Mattox.  On behalf of the Society, we would like to thank you for all of your hard work and dedication for so many years.

2008 Moore School of Business, International MBA Fellowship Recipient
Congratulations to Golden Key member Brock Bean who was recently awarded the 2008 Moore School of Business, International MBA Fellowship.
After graduating from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, Brock accepted a position as a management trainee with Cintas Corporation. After just one year into the two year Management Trainee Program, he was promoted to Service Manager where he was able to further develop business and management skills. After one year as service manager, Brock took the opportunity to relocate his family to California and become a partner in an asphalt paving and construction company. Brock was able to contribute and help grow Hard Rock Construction & Engineering, Inc. from a small family owned business to a multi-million dollar corporation.

While continuing to manage Hard Rock, Brock has remained active in his church and the Boy Scouts of America. As a troop supervisor, Brock led thirteen scouts on a weeklong 56-mile hike to the top of Mount Whitney, the highest point in the 48 contiguous states, in the summer of 2007. He is also the father of three boys and enjoys camping, fishing and coaching their various sports.

2008 Rhodes Scholars Announced
Congratulations to the following Golden Key members who are winners of the 2008 Rhodes Scholar Awards:

  • Katherine Vyborny from The University of Georgia
  • Joseph O'Shea from The Florida State University
  • Andrea DenHoed from The University of Oklahoma
  • Reed Doucette from University of Southern California

The Rhodes Scholarships, the oldest international fellowships bring outstanding students from many countries around the world to the University of Oxford. Rhodes Scholars are elected for two years of study at the University of Oxford, with the possibility of renewal for a third year. All educational costs, such as matriculation, tuition, laboratory and certain other fees, are paid on the Scholar's behalf by the Rhodes Trustees. Golden Key Adviser Receives Prestigious Distinguished Eagle Scout Award

Dr. David L. Briscoe, a 1993 Ph.D. graduate in Sociology at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale was recently presented the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award by the National Council, Boy Scouts of America. He is Professor of Sociology and Distinguished Teaching Fellow in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Dr. Briscoe is co-founder and adviser of the Golden Key Chapter at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock for 15 years.

Created in 1969, the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award is the only distinguished service recognition that depends on one's association with Scouting as a youth. The recipient must have attained the Eagle Scout rank a minimum of 25 years before his nomination, and over those years he must have distinguished himself in his profession and rendered outstanding service to his community. Award recipients have included 38th President Gerald R. Ford; former astronaut Neil Armstrong; cartoonist Milton Caniff; late actor Ozzie Nelson; H. Ross Perot, founder of Electronic Data Systems and The Perot Group; United States Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld; retired General William C. Westmoreland; retired Admiral Elmo R. Zumwalt Jr.; Senator Richard G. Lugar; film director Steven Spielberg; former FBI Director William S. Sessions; former United States Representative J. J. Pickle; Donald F. Wright, senior vice president of the Times Mirror Co.; and former Secretary of Education Lamar Alexander. Recipients are chosen by a national prominent committee of Distinguished Eagle Scout Award recipients.
