Golden Key Graduate Scholar Award

Congratulations to the 2009 winners:
Lauren Reed - University of Michigan-Dearborn ($20,000)
Lauren comments, "I appreciate the opportunity given to me by Golden Key to help fund my graduate education.  This organization has an unwavering dedication to scholarship, and supports their members with these very generous awards!  This award will assist me in funding my room and board for the Joint Doctoral Program in Social Work and Psychology at the University of Michigan, where I will be studying dating violence, violence against women, and media influences.  I am very grateful for this gift and all I have gained from involvement in Golden Key through their commitment to service and leadership development."
Stan Wang - University of Akron ($10,000)
Stan comments, "This award will help support my professional studies during medical school. By continuing grassroots non-profit work to empower impoverished and marginalized populations worldwide, along with pushing the edge of scientific research, I seek to fulfill my personal and professional life as both a humanitarian and future physician-scientist. As such, the impetus for and the value of my course are already firmly rooted in my life; however, this support has empowered me to be better able to accomplish my goals. Being a recipient of a 2009 Golden Key Graduate Scholar Award reaffirms my belief that the Golden Key Society supports and actively encourages continuing excellence in scholarship and service among its members. Having invested my time and energy in Golden Key, I am humbled that Golden Key has now chosen to invest in me. Furthermore, I am proud to be continuing the tradition that the Society’s premier award represents."
Michele Miller - Wright State University ($10,000)
Michele comments, "I am grateful and honored to receive the Golden Key Graduate Scholar Award. Golden Key is an amazing organization and has given me the opportunity to grow in leadership roles, give back to my community, and build friendships. I truly appreciate and want to thank the student members, advisors, alumni, and partners who collectively enable Golden Key to fulfill its mission of enabling members to realize their potential. The Graduate Scholar Award will help me realize my own potential as I pursue my Masters of Business Administration at Wright State University."
Stephanie Beattie - The University of New Brunswick-Saint John ($10,000)
Stephanie comments,   “It is an incredible honor to be named a recipient of the Golden Key Graduate Scholar Award.  I am so grateful to be recognized by a society that has played such a significant role in my life.  My involvement with Golden Key has opened the doors to countless leadership and life changing experiences.  These experiences will never be forgotten, and in fact they have helped shape me into the person that I am today.  Golden Key has not only strengthened my desire to succeed academically, but it has given me the opportunity to serve my community.  This scholarship is a true source of encouragement and further supports my goal of becoming a Doctor of Pharmacy.  This scholarship will help pay for my tuition at the University of Alberta, where I will begin my studies in pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences.  Having a goal and sticking to it changes everything! Thank you so much Golden Key!”
Lisa Inman - University of Tennessee ($10,000)
Lisa comments, "This scholarship has come at the best possible time. As a newlywed and new college graduate in a tough economy, the only reason I have been able to afford graduate school is because I have been blessed with scholarships. This scholarship has truly relived a financial burden; it is enabling me to reach my potential by allowing me to focus on volunteering and completing my Masters of Accounting. It is an honor to be identified as someone who embodies the ideals of Golden Key. I humbly aspire to continue laying this positive foundation and consider it a privilege to represent Golden Key as a Graduate Scholar."
Victoria Kalasinsky - University of Maryland-College Park ($10,000)

Victoria comments, "I recently completed my first year of graduate school at the Weill Cornell Graduate of Medical Sciences where I am pursuing a Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences. For my thesis research, I have joined Dr. Mary Baylies’ laboratory in the Developmental Biology Department at the Sloan Kettering Memorial Cancer Center, a partner of the Weill Cornell Graduate School of Medical Sciences. The focus of our laboratory is to identify novel genes involved in muscle development so that we may provide insight into the cause of many muscular dystrophies. Being named a recipient of the 2009 Golden Key Graduate Scholar Award is such a blessing to me because it will provide needed resources to fund my thesis project, and without this award I wouldn’t be able to afford a laptop computer and other equipment that I will need for data storage throughout my years as a graduate student. I am thrilled and truly honored to represent the Golden Key International Honour Society, and uphold its mission statement, “Enabling members to realize their potential,” as I set forth on my educational endeavors with the assistance of this award. Thank you so much!"

Amie Hagenow - Central Connecticut State University ($10,000)
Amie comments, "I am honored to have the chance to receive this award from Golden Key. The funds from this scholarship will be used in my pursuit of a Masters degree in Elementary Education. Once I have completed my degree I plan to teach students what it truly means to be a lifelong learner and the value of community. I must say that without the support of my family, friends, professors, colleagues and community my success would not be possible. It is my intent, desire and dream to help shape the youth of America into well -rounded, independent and motivated citizens of the world."
Rachel Finn - University of Texas at San Antonio ($10,000)
Rachel comments, "I cannot thank Golden Key enough for selecting me as one of the honored recipients of its Graduate Scholar Award. I applied in humble hope that I may be considered and was very privileged to be selected as a winner. Having just received my B.A. in psychology from the University of Texas at San Antonio, I feel great pride and encouragement knowing that Golden Key has faith in my abilities as a student and future professional. With another four years ahead me at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, this award will minimize the amount of loans needed to fund my education. This has significantly decreased the financial burden of my educational expenses, which will allow me to focus more attention on my studies, volunteering, and preparing for my career in medicine. I praise God for this organization which believes in investing in the future of its members."
Jonathan Broyles - Ball State University ($10,000)
Jonathan comments, "I am very appreciative of being given the opportunity to receive the 2009 Golden Key Graduate Scholar Award, which will help to finance my books, room and board, and a portion of tuition at the University of Indianapolis’ Krannert School of Physical Therapy.  Receiving your support through this scholarship will help to ensure that I can successfully complete my three-year doctorate degree in physical therapy, and begin my career in the field for which I am so passionate.  The Golden Key Graduate Scholar Award means the opportunity to fulfill my dreams, and I could not be more grateful."
Muhammad Islam - University of New Hampshire ($10,000)
Muhammad comments, "It is a great honor for me to be selected as a Golden Key Graduate Scholar. I am very excited to have the opportunity to represent Golden Key at the University of Toronto where I am currently pursuing my Masters degree in Electrical Engineering. This award will help me in paying boarding and lodging fees along with covering books and conference travel costs. I want to do a PhD upon completion of my Masters and then work as a researcher in the field of wireless communications and signal processing. Thank you Golden Key for assisting me in this journey!"
Elizabeth Hong - University of Buffalo ($10,000)
Elizabeth comments, "My deepest gratitude to Golden Key for granting me this award. My years with the SUNY at Buffalo chapter have yielded memorable and fulfilling experiences in serving the Buffalo community, and I hope to continue that service as a medical student at the University of Michigan Medical School. The hope of doing something meaningful with our education becomes more tangible with this award, and I heartily thank Golden Key for offering this opportunity to so wide a range of interests and goals among its members."
Summer Gaskin - University of Florida ($10,000)
Summer comments, "I am truly honored to receive the 2009 Golden Key Graduate Scholar Award. I will use this scholarship to pay for all of my remaining tuition for my Master of Education degree in Mathematics Education. Such financial assistance will allow me to concentrate on gaining experience in the areas that will help me grow professionally, and it will grant me more freedom when choosing a school for my internship. The Society has been a valuable part of my undergraduate experience and I look forward to staying involved during the remainder of my time at the University of Florida."
