CAR RENTAL
Avis, in connection with Continental Airlines, is pleased to offer discounted car rates to Golden Key delegates attending the 2008 International Conference. Please contact Avis at 1-800-331-1212 and give the reservation agent AWD#J953701 to receive the appropriate rates or make your reservations online. All vehicles include unlimited mileage. Rates are based upon rental details. Please call Avis for more details on this special offer.

A rental car for the week may give you the opportunity to explore New Orleans at your own pace, especially if you consider a side trip before or after the conference itself. Please note that if you do plan to rent a car during the time of the conference, parking rates at the Hilton Riverside hotel are $29 a night for self-park and $35 per night for valet.

Driving from the airport to the hotel takes approximately 25 minutes. Follow Interstate-10 Downtown/East/Slidell, exiting at Poydras St. Turn right onto Poydras St., following Poydras south to its end, which is the Hilton Riverside hotel's front circle drive entrance.

TAXI
There are dozens of taxicab companies in the city – many are privately owned, and the vehicles will often look different from each other. Pick-up from the airport is on the lower level, outside the baggage claim area.

A taxi ride costs $28.00 from the airport to the Central Business District (CBD) for one or two people and $12.00 (per passenger) for three or more passengers. There may be an additional charge for extra baggage. There is a $1 fuel surcharge added to total fare.

Below are listings for two taxicab companies recently voted as one of the Best of Citysearch 2007 for Limo/Taxi services in New Orleans, though there are many others available.

Getting Around New Orleans

WALKING
For most leisure activities in New Orleans, walking is ideal between the Hilton Riverside Hotel and various points of interest. Summer temperatures will be warm in late July and early August, so dress in light clothing and be sure to wear comfortable shoes for pedestrian paths. From the Hilton Riverside to Jackson Square is 0.8 miles, while Bourbon Street can be reached in 0.5 miles.

TAXI
A taxicab ride may be your choice if you are a larger group, traveling a greater distance, or are out late into the evening. A taxi ensures safe point-to-point travel and can offer a reasonable fare for a party splitting the total. See the previously outlined travel section for information about taxicabs in New Orleans.

STREETCAR
New Orleans is famous for its streetcars, called trolleys by some, which have been an integral part of the city’s transportation system for close to 200 years. There are three operating streetcar lines in the city, with the St. Charles Avenue Streetcar serving as the oldest continuously operating street railway system in the world. Today, all streetcar lines are under the New Orleans Regional Transit Authority, connecting local and visiting passengers to locations throughout many districts. The standard adult fare on all lines is $1.25 in one direction.
