The Golden Key Achiever Jumpstart Kit was created as a unique program to promote the Golden Key global service mission of "Advancing Literacy" to children in need. These kits include school supplies, materials and information that will JUMPSTART the student recipients' paths to academic excellence while encouraging them to attend college.

We asked Golden Key chapters to donate UNIVERSITY BRANDED or CHAPTER BRANDED items that could benefit this effort.  Chapter involvement in this effort counted towards achieving the "Literacy-Focused Service Activity" chapter standard!

We planned to combine all donated items into "Jumpstart Kits" and deliver them to 7th and 8th graders attending Sylvan Hills Middle School, an inner-city middle school in Atlanta, GA.

After months of planning, receiving, and packing the Uhaul, we were able to deliver 550 Jumpstart Achiever Kits to the students at Sylvan Hills Middle School.  Sylvan Hills Principal, Mrs. Gwen S. Atkinson was on hand to welcome us. Soon after we arrived, an announcement was made for all students to report to the Parent's Corner where they would receive a surprise. Golden Key staff welcomed classes of students and provided each with a kit containing items such as pens, t-shirts, letters of encouragement and university pamphlets. The 35+ Golden Key chapters who donated items went above and beyond and their impact was seen on the faces of the students at Sylvan Hills.
