The Motorola Malaysia Software Center, known formally as the Motorola Multimedia Sendirian Berhad (MMMSB), started its operations in mid-1999 and it was inaugurated as a Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) status company by YAB Dato' Seri Dr.Mahathir Mohamad, former Prime Minister of Malaysia. Part of Motorola's Global Software Group (GSG), MMMSB employs more than 250 software engineers, 98% of whom are Malaysian citizens.
The Center's domain of excellence includes software applications and network management solutions in 2G, 2.5G and 3G Wireless Communication Systems,embedded test software applications for portable wireless devices as well as automotive. The company was assessed with a score of close to 700 on a 1000-point scale using the Malcolm Baldrige Balanced Score Card Approach for Performance Excellence.

Drawing on its technological expertise and global market experience, MMMSB serves to provide clients with an all-embracing portfolio of services, from products and solutions delivery to systems integration and software process consultancy.
MMMSB is a SEI-CMM® Level 5 organization, having achieved the highest level of software maturity as assessed by the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) from the Carnegie Mellon University in the USA. The center recently reached another milestone, the SEI-CMMI® Level 5 which is a more rigorous version of the CMM® called the CMMI® (Capability Maturity Model® Integrated).
Penang
Motorola's facility in Penang was set up in 1974. Over the years it has grown from an assembly plant for electronics components to become a benchmarked global Integrated Manufacturing, R&D and Distribution Center for two-way radio and energy business. This Integrated Center has responsibility for the total value chain of manufacturing which includes distribution and sales, regionally and globally, of products manufactured in Penang or products procured, and subsequently integrated and consolidated in Penang. It is also responsible for the design and development of these products, and provides after-sales repairs and parts replacement service to customers. In addition, it is the regional center for product and dealer training.
Currently, an end-to-end integrated Terrestrial Trunked Radio (TETRA) Center of Excellence set up in 2001 supports Motorola's increasing TETRA customer base in Asia. Fully equipped with TETRA systems infrastructure, it is a center of excellence for the design and development of embedded software, hardware and manufacturing of the latest generation of advanced TETRA radios and systems. With this investment, Malaysians are positioned at the forefront of design, development, software, manufacturing, system integration, maintenance and support for advanced TETRA digital solutions.
Motorola Penang (R & D center and Manufacturing) operations is ISO 9001 & ISO14000 certified, and an accredited SEI CMM level 5 organization, the highest level of software development process maturity. This achievement has given Malaysia the honor of being the first country in the North Asia and ASEAN regions to have attained this world class standard and leadership in the software development process.
